Code of Ethics in Research

Purpose of Research

Research plays a vital role in every academic institution for its sustainability and development. The quality of research directly translates to the quality of teaching and learning.

  • Research that transfers ideas from **"Lab to Land"** must be encouraged.
  • Research should benefit the community and be grounded in quality investigation.
  • It should not be primarily focused on earning a degree or promotion, but rather on **serving the public good**.
  • Researchers should identify problems faced by the community and work toward the development of the nation.

Academic Integrity

Academic integrity refers to a commitment to the values of **honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, legality, and openness** in the dissemination of information. Researchers must be honest, sincere, and responsible for their research findings and publications.

What is Misconduct in Research?

Misconduct encompasses fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or deception in the proposal, conduct, or reporting of research results. It also covers deliberate, dangerous, or negligent deviations from accepted research practices.

Plagiarism

The deliberate copying of ideas, text, data, or other works without proper permission or acknowledgement.

Piracy

The deliberate copying or use of another person's intellectual work, ideas, or data without due acknowledgement or consent.

Misinterpretation

The deliberate attempt to falsely represent or distort the ideas or works of others.

Falsification

Manipulating research materials, equipment, or processes, or altering or omitting data or results.

Core Ethical Principles

  • Do not fabricate data or falsify results.
  • Avoid duplication in publication or submission.
  • Do not misrepresent research findings or use fraudulent data.
  • Avoid all forms of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism.
  • Preserve and protect the privacy, dignity, and freedom of all research participants.
  • Ensure the accuracy and authenticity of all data.
  • Clearly cite all sources of information and data used.
  • Grant authorship only to those who have made a significant contribution.
