About the Cell

The Counselling Department aims to support the emotional, psychological, and personal growth of students by providing guidance, promoting mental well-being, and conducting awareness programs. It strives to create a safe and supportive environment that helps students develop resilience, self-awareness, and life skills for overall well-being and success.

Class Counsellors & Mentoring

At our college, we believe every student deserves personal guidance. Each class is assigned two faculty members as Class Counsellors, providing academic advice, exam preparation guidance, and assistance with any challenges. They meet with students individually every month, fostering close student–faculty interaction.

Workshop Report: Mentoring Gen Z to Achieve the Impossible

The Mentoring Committee, in association with the Counselling Department, organised a workshop on "Mentoring Gen Z to Achieve the Impossible". The session was delivered by Dr. Kshipra Vohra. She emphasised that many students lack a safe space and that mentors play a vital role in providing that support. Dr. Vohra used a creative analogy: a teacher is like a GPS, a counsellor is like a mechanic, and a mentor is like a co-driver. The session included interactive activities and real-life case examples.

Mental Health Club

The Mental Health Club, an initiative led by the College Counsellor, is dedicated to promoting emotional well-being and raising mental health awareness. It fosters a caring and inclusive campus environment through workshops, interactive sessions, and peer support activities.

Activities & Reports

  • Workshop on "Stage Fright to Stage Presence" (June 2025): Sessions focused on non-verbal cues, body language, and managing performance anxiety.
  • POSH Act Workshops (July 2025): A series of workshops on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act for first-year students, detailing reporting mechanisms and the role of the Internal Committee.
  • Workshop on "Because Every Life Matters: Understanding Suicide Prevention" (Sept 2025): A state-level workshop with Dr. Peter Castelino of COOJ Mental Health Foundation, focusing on recognizing warning signs and providing support.
  • Debate Competition (Oct 2025): Held for World Mental Health Day, this event required students to debate on-the-spot topics without mobile phones.
  • Workshop on "Unlocking the Power Within: The Subconscious Mind" (Oct 2025): Dr. Sharmila Rao, a psychotherapist, explained the Theory of Mind and managing intrusive thoughts.
  • World Mental Health Day Commemoration (Oct 10, 2025): The event included prize distribution, a skit on mental health, a dance performance, and stress-buster games.

Highlights (2022-2025)

  • 7-Day NSS Special Residential Camp (Nov 2024): Annual camp organised at Shree Shantadurga Devasthan, Dhargal.
  • Environmental Drives (Sept 2024): Included a Beach Cleaning Drive at Candolim, an E-Waste Collection Drive, and a Tree Plantation Drive.
  • Blood Donation Drives: Multiple camps organised in association with various organisations.
  • Community Engagement: A street play on new criminal laws was organised with the Mapusa Police Station.

Highlights (2021-2022)

  • Personality Development - "How to say No" (Oct 2021): A session by Ms. Kanan Tandi focusing on Attitude, self-Behaviour, and Communication.
  • Yoga, Pranayam & Meditation for Inner Peace (Dec 2021): A four-day training programme as part of "Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav".
  • 60th Anniversary of Goa's Liberation (Dec 2021): 90 students and 15 teachers attended the Sail Parade and Fly Past at Miramar beach.
Academic Support

Remedial Classes

The college conducts remedial coaching classes for first-year and second-year students in maths and economics subjects. This special guidance helps slow learners cope with the syllabus. The remedial coaching classes help students overcome their difficulties and improve their academic performance.

Career Preparation

Competitive Exams

The college conducts coaching classes for competitive exams in Banking, clerical exams, and other relevant fields. The BBA department of our college conducts coaching classes every year for the UGAT exams. The college plans to further increase the number of coaching classes for various exams.

Orientation on Competitive Exams:

The Career Guidance and Placement Cell of the college conducted a session on "Orientation on competitive exams" on 12th March 2022. Mr Kundan Lal from Bodhi Academy highlighted to students the importance of preparing for competitive exams for government jobs, public sector banks, GPSC, UPSC, Staff Selection Commission, ESIC, Railway, Goa Police, Insurance, and AAI.

Awards

There are various awards and prizes for meritorious students. Endowments and cash prizes have been established to recognise excellence in the academic field. To encourage extracurricular activities, the college offers prizes to students who excel in sports/games, N.S.S. & various other competitions organised by the college.

Students' Aid Fund

Financial assistance is made available to deserving students who are in need of financial support from the Students' Aid Fund. The fund is raised by collecting an amount of Rs. 130 from each student at the time of admission.

Eligibility conditions:

  • The applicant should be a regular and bona fide student of the college.
  • The annual family income should be less than Rs. 1 Lakh per annum.
  • The applicant should not be in receipt of any stipend/scholarship or financial assistance from any other source for the concerned academic year.

Other Conditions:

  • There will be a committee to scrutinise the applications and select the applicants.
  • The applicant may be interviewed if required.
  • A copy of the Income Certificate and the mark sheet of the last examination passed must be enclosed along with the applications.
  • The decision of the committee will be final.

Student Discipline and Conduct

Institutional Code of Conduct for Students

Students Shall:

  • Wear their identity card around the neck at all times.
  • Attend lectures as per the timetable, maintaining a minimum of 75% attendance, which is compulsory for every student.
  • Maintain discipline in class and on the campus.
  • Wear modest clothes and formal dress for all college functions.
  • Report the presence of outsiders in the college premises to the teachers immediately.
  • Treat girls with honour and dignity.
  • Participate actively in sports and other college activities.
  • Keep the campus clean at all times.
  • Treat everyone with respect and courtesy, without any form of discrimination.
  • Appear for all components of ISA and SEE.
  • Respect all members of the teaching and non-teaching staff.

Students Shall Not:

  • Use mobile phones within the college campus.
  • Smoke in the college premises.
  • Invite personal mail to the college email ID.
  • Indulge in ragging or any form of harassment.
  • Use abusive language within the college campus or on official/college-related WhatsApp groups.
  • Form any association without the prior approval of the Principal.
  • Collect money for any purpose without the Principal's permission.
  • Damage or deface college property in any manner.

Procedure for Certificates

Any student who is in need of a Bonafide, Character, No Objection or Transfer Certificate should apply for the same in the prescribed application form available at the college office by paying the required fees.

Transfer Certificate (TC)

  1. 1.T.C form to be filled.
  2. 2.
    Documents to be attached:
    • Sem-I to VI marksheets (Xerox)
    • XIIth marksheet Xerox copy
    • University Registration card (Xerox copy)
    • TC fees Rs. 50/-
  3. 3.
    Remarks to be taken from:
    • Librarian
    • Head clerk
    • Principal
  4. 4.Documents to be checked from the General Register.

⏱️ TIME REQUIRED TO PROCESS APPLICATION FROM COLLEGE: EIGHT DAYS

Migration Certificate

  1. 1.Students should fill the Online Migration Certificate form available on the Goa University Website: www.unigoa.ac.in
  2. 2.Pay Fees.
  3. 3.Scan and send the Transfer Certificate copy to the university.
  4. 4.The University will send details to the College for approval.
  5. 5.Once approved, the Migration Certificate will be issued by the University.
